Ask Nobleway: Recording

Chat (/app/query) is where you can record activity or ask about the ledger in ordinary English. This page covers recording. For questions, see Asking Questions.

Nobleway turns each message into a draft you can review. The ledger does not change until you confirm. Your household shares a daily chat allowance for recording and questions. If you use your own key, that work does not use the household allowance. The allowance resets at UTC midnight. Burst protection and your provider’s own limits can still apply.

Chats are private to your account inside the household. Use the left history rail to open earlier chats, rename them, or start a new one.

The Core Rule: Nothing is saved until you confirm

Everyday wording can be ambiguous. You always have the last word.

1. You type a sentence (for example, Spent $45 on lunch).
2. Nobleway fills a draft card in the chat with the fields it found.
3. You review and correct anything that is wrong.
4. You confirm. Only then is it a saved record. The chat keeps the draft and the “Saved” card in history.

How to Use Capture

1. In the sidebar, click Chat (/app/query).
2. Type a sentence describing the transaction (or pick a Record starter chip).
3. Press Send (or Enter). Use Shift+Enter for a new line.
4. Review the draft card in the transcript.
5. If the fields look right, click Confirm.
6. The transaction is saved, balances update, and you can keep messaging in the same chat or start a new one.

You can also attach or drag-and-drop a file in the chat. Receipt images can become a draft card in the same thread. CSV, Excel, and statement files continue as short chat steps (column mapping, preview, confirm). Spreadsheet import is rule-based. Statement reading for scans without readable text is a last resort. Voice (browser speech)

On a compatible browser (for example Chrome or Edge):

1. Tap the microphone in Chat.
2. Speak your message, then tap the mic again to stop.
3. Edit the text in the box if needed.
4. Press Send. From there the path is the same as typing (draft → confirm for a transaction, or an answer card for a question).

Speech-to-text runs in your browser. Nobleway does not receive or store audio. Drafts and answers are built only when you Send, the same as typed text. If voice is unavailable, the mic stays disabled and you can type instead.
